Right-wing populism is taking over. Should we be ashamed of the racism or proud of the anti-imperialism? You decide.

Neither.

People are supporting these parties because they have lost faith in mainstream politics. Mainstream parties need to address the concerns of the electorate and win back their trust, or face becoming increasingly irrelevant.

In Australia we have Pauline Hanson:

Quote:The One Nation Party’s growing popularity in the state has sent shockwaves through the major parties, as they attempt to win back Queensland voters.

On Saturday The Courier Mail published an opinion poll, which showed the voting intentions of 900 Queenslanders.
It showed most are fed up with Labor and the Coalition.

"Labor and the Coalition" are the two parties in our two-party system.

Luckily, Prince Trudeau will be the archduke of Frappe Snowland for quite a while.

So ... yeah ... it will be a long time before we get Prime Minister Stefan Molyneux.

The "left" needs to stop trying to counter right wing populism with elitism. No kind of populism can lose to elitism. What's needed is socialism.

"I am going to make trolling great again!"
"Well, I think trolling is already great!"
"TROLLING WAS NEVER GREAT OMFG"

That's my Lang! This is why I like you!
We need more populism. Left-wing populism would be better, but we generally need more populism.

The Left tries to be populist by enlisting celebrities to tell people to vote for them.

I think this shows blatant disrespect for potential voters. Do they really think that people are going to vote Democrat just because Katy Perry or Lady Gaga tells them to?

Maybe the left could try a new approach, being populist by addressing the concerns of the electorate and acting on those concerns? I know that it's kind of outrageous to suggest that politicians would consider acting this way, but it's worth a shot.

Follow Bernie Sanders' example. He has a great message that people line up behind, but I don't think anyone ever thought to themselves, "You know who would make a great president? A 70-year-old, non-practicing Jewish guy with crazy hair."

Or a conspiracy theorist nut-case like Jill Stein (Or was that Gary Johnson?)

Whereas plenty of people thought a 72-year old guy with crazy hair would be perfect for the role …

History is the lies of the victors coupled with the delusions of the defeated. It is an imagined certainty created at the point where the imperfection of memory meets the inadequacy of documentation.

My point was it was his message that people liked. Nobody really cares about his age, religion, or appearance when his core message is rebuilding the middle class and making things work for the bottom rung of society.
